CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Total Nitrate Impact In summary, percolation rates that meet the minimum EHD standards were achieved in the shallow soils on Site. Based on the method and assumptions described, the result of the nitrate loading balance indicates that the proposed development on the property may cause a build up of nitrates in the aquifer above 10 mg/L-N. Methods of Mitigation The prediction of nitrate impact may be more thoroughly addressed when the specific use is finalized for the site. A project that raises the Nc value above 10 mg/L-N may require a small to large waste water treatment system to reduce nitrate to or below 10 mg/L-N in percolating effluent. An engineered septic system designed to mitigate elevated nitrate levels may be required by the EHD. We can provide these design services upon request.
