k4 KLEINFELDER
proposed drive-through coffee shop will have a maximum staff of four employees and no public
restrooms.
SEPTIC PERMITS AND PERFORMANCE
An employee of the SJCEHD performed a search for permits on file for the subject property and
parcels adjacent to the subject property. One septic permit was on file for the subject property
and no permits were available for the adjacent parcels. This permit was for the destruction of a
septic system. No details regarding the construction of the septic system were on the permit.
Please see the attached table for a summary of permit information.
The property surrounding the subject property is agricultural land. According to Ms. Cassel, to
the best of her knowledge, none of the adjacent properties require additional septic system work
to be performed at this time. Based on the absence of permits on file with SJCEHD, it appears
that few of the shallow leach field systems in the immediate vicinity of the subject property have
had additional leach lines added.
GROUNDWATER
During the time of our investigation, groundwater was not encountered. Lines of Equal Depth to
Groundwater contour maps published in groundwater reports by the San Joaquin County Flood
Control and Water Conservation District show groundwater levels in the project area ranging
from about 120 to 140 feet below ground surface from Spring 1981 to Spring 1999. Based on
Equal Elevation of Groundwater maps, the general groundwater gradient is from east to west.
Local gradient variations may be present due to well usage.
We do not know of any existing and/or potential groundwater contamination issues in the project
vicinity. There are no existing gas stations or dairies adjacent to the property. Seasonal
fertilization of the off-site agricultural land, if performed, is probably the largest contributor of
nitrogen to groundwater in the project vicinity. We anticipate that septic system usage and
landscape fertilization, if any, would be the primary future on-site sources of nitrogen to soil and
groundwater.
As no wells are present on the subject property, no nitrate and DBCP testing was performed.
With no development or agriculture present, the groundwater is currently unused at the site.
Groundwater would probably remain unused at the coffee shop site as public water is available.
SOIL PROFILE
The subsurface conditions at the site were explored at about 8:00 am on August 18, 2003, by
drilling one boring to a depth of approximately 14 feet below existing grade. The boring was
drilled using a Simco 2400 truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 6-inch O.D. solid-stem auger.
The approximate boring/percolation test location and approximate dimensions from reference
points are presented on the site plan.
35025.GO115TO3R1509 October 10,2003
9 2003 Kleinfelder,Inc.
