City of Ripon Well#12
Nitrate Study Report May 31,2008
5.0 VVELL SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
SGI conducted the sampling activities for wells identified in section 4.0 as described below.
5.1 SGI Sampling of Residential Wells
On January 5, 2005 an SGI geologist sampled the recommended private wells except for the Kamps
well, which was sampled on March 7, 2005. The details of these sampling events are described below.
5.1.1 Method of Sampling
All wells sampled were supply wells with sample ports, with the exception of the Jimco inactive well. This
well was sampled using a disposable bailer. For all remaining wells that were not currently pumping, the
pump was turned on and allowed to run for a few minutes before the sample was collected. At the Jimco
(active) and RFS sites, the wells were currently pumping, and samples were collected from the ports
promptly after being opened. Each of the required sampling bottles was filled directly from well sample
ports. The bottles were then capped, labeled, and placed on ice.
5.1.2 Sample Handling and Analyses
The samples collected in January were transported under chain-of-custody to JL Analytical Services of
Modesto, California. The following analyses were requested for samples collected in January 2006:
• VOCs by EPA Method 524.2
• SVOCs by EPA Method 625
• Inorganic and Metals by EPA Method 2001300.
The purpose for conducting this suite of analyses was to evaluate whether other contaminants in addition
to those reported at the RFS and Jimco sites might also potentially impact the Well 12 water supply in the
future.
5.1.3 Equipment Decontamination
Since all wells were sampled directly from sample ports, no decontamination of sampling equipment was
necessary.
RWl 12 Rem 5-1 The Source Grow,Inc.
