Surface loading: lb BODS/acreed = (0.03 34 b 1/Mgal((mg/ 1)550 1) 50.25 50 lbs BOD5/acreeday
Therefore, increase pond surface area to 0.5 acres to reduce BOD5/acreoday to 275 lbs.
E. POND CONSTRUCTION DETAILS AND DESIGN
1. Embankments: Use of on-site material to construct embankments by excavating four feet
of material to build up four feet of compacted embankment. Top width is to be ten feet for
vehicle traffic. Inner slope to be 2:1, outer slope to be 3:1. Vegetation should be planted
rably low growing grass to prevent erosion.
on the outer embankments, prefe
2. Pond: Utilize 30 mil HDPE plastic to line entire surface area of inner side embankments and
bottom. One foot overlap at each seam and glued. Four-inch overlength at bottom of
embankment to account for soil compaction. Anchored at top of embankment as detailed
in Appendix. No less than one foot minimum freeboard. Total depth of pond to be eight
feet. Fencing, with warning signs shall be placed around the entire pond.
3. Piping: Influent and effluent lines to be generally accepted sewer line construction material.
There should be two to three inspection ports on influent line leaving abattoir to the pond
to check for fat, oil and grease (FOG) build-up. Build-up of FOG will require additional
treatment of wastewater before entering pond. Influent lines should be place along the
bottom, near the north end of the pond. A fresh water line must also be installed to maintain
-45-
NaOf y gy R4search
