GeaCog d rfec(rnics Znc.
Well Installation Report Page 2
City of Escalon
Project No.750.2
+-+ January 31,2000
r
2.0 SCOPE OF INVESTIGATION
2.1 Soil Boring Installation
x.
In an effort to define the lateral extent of gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons, three (3)
soil borings were drilled to a depth of 75 to 76 feet below ground surface (bgs). The
boreholes were drilled with an 8-inch, outside diameter, continuous flight, hollow-stem auger
`r owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C57# 720904) from Rio Vista, California.
In order to prepare for a vapor extraction pilot test and possible remediation by vapor
• extraction, four (4) soil borings were drilled (2 to a depth of 55 feet and 2 to a depth of 27
feet) and converted into vapor extraction wells. The borings were drilled with a I0-inch,
outside diameter, continuous flight, hollow-stem auger owned and operated by V&W
Drilling.
Due to the road construction work occurring along Hwy 120 and the McHenry Ave./Escalon-
Bellota Road interchange, the borings had to be installed in a piece meal fashion as
construction work allowed. The schedule went as follows:
• MW-2, VEW-1 and VEW-2 were drilled on April 29, 1999.
• MW-3 was drilled on June 11, 1999.
^ • MW-1, VEW-3 and VEW-4 were installed on July 30, 1999.
Monitoring well permits were secured from the San Joaquin County Public Health
..r Services/Environmental Health Department (SJC PHS/EHD). The local regulatory agency
was notified 48 hours prior to commencing work.
Soil cuttings were stockpiled on plastic and drilling equipment decontamination water was
contained in DOT-17 approved 55 gallon drums and moved to the back of the site until their
disposal can be arranged.
+ 2.1.1 Soil Sampling Procedure
Soil samples were collected for geological and laboratory evaluation at five-foot intervals
from ground surface to total depth. A boring log providing sediment description using the
USCS and field observations was maintained by a professional geologist working under the
supervision of a registered geologist. Soil samples were collected in 6.0-inch brass liners
using a 2.0 inch modified California split spoon sampler. All soil samples were sealed with
Teflon sheets, capped with plastic end caps, labeled, and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for
transport to the laboratory following Chain of Custody protocol. The OVM was used to
screen the soil samples.
Details on the geology encountered during the completion of the soil sampling as well as the
field observations are included in Section 3.2, Geology and Field Observations.
