Box 2009 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Stockton, California 95201 PERMIT/SERVICES
RE:
Work Plan
Subsurface Soil and Groundwater Investigation
McDowell & Davis Towing, 1360 Escalon Avenue, Escalon, California
1.0 PROJECT IDENTIFICATION
The following plan provides a scope of work that will help characterize the petroleum
contamination disclosed during the underground tank removal at the above referenced
property. We propose the use of a Geo-Probe to obtain soil and ground water samples for
the preliminary characterization of the vertical extent of contamination.
1.1 Site Description and History
Four underground fuel tanks were removed on March 15, 1999 by SEMCO under
permit. Hydrocarbon odors were noted in the soil beneath the west end of the
dispenser island area. Soil samples for analysis were collected as required from
beneath the tanks, the dispenser islands, the piping lines, and from the soil
stockpiles. Analytical results disclosed up to 210 ppb of MTBE, 2,700 ppb TBA
and 570 ppb xylenes from the former tank pit, and 5,000 ppb TBA and 110 ppb
xylenes from the former dispenser island area.
2.0 WORK PLAN
M. J. Kloberdanz& Associates proposes to drill three borings to a depth of about 40 feet.
The Geoprobe borings will be drilled in the area of formerly disclosed contamination;
west side and the northeast side of the former excavation, and the area of the former
dispenser piping. (Figure 2). A maximum of four soil samples will be collected at
various depths. Since groundwater has been identified in the area at 70+ feet in depth, a
water sample will not be obtained. Samples will be analyzed by GeoAnalytical
Laboratories for gasoline BTEX, & MTBE. The bottom hole soil sample will be
analyzed for the Oxygenated Compounds using Method 8260.
A report of the subsurface investigation containing site map, boring logs, and soil and
groundwater sampling records with laboratory data sheets will be prepared at the end of
