J. Kloberdanz &Associates (MJK)on behalf of the above referenced site
and has the following comments.
The report documents the quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling event that
took place at this site on March 5, 2001. Analytical results from the groundwater
samples collected from the three onsite monitoring wells were non-detect for all
constituents, with the exception of trace amounts of toluene in two of the wells. The
report recommends continued groundwater monitoring. However, the statement that
begins "Additional monitoring of the existing wells for a hydrologic cycle..." is unclear.
The Glossary of Geology, published by the American Institute of Geology, defines the
hydrologic cycle as, "The constant circulation of water from the sea, through the
atmosphere, to the land, and its eventual return to the atmosphere by way of
transpiration and evaporation from the sea and land surfaces." Thus, the hydrologic
cycle bears no relation to groundwater monitoring. Groundwater monitoring should
continue at this site until directed otherwise by PHS/EHD, as stated in correspondence
dated February 2, 2001. A minimum of two additional rounds of monitoring must be
completed prior to further evaluation of the site. PHS/EHD acknowledges that the wells
were resurveyed by a licensed surveyor to City of Escalon Benchmark No. 2. The
direction of the groundwater flow for this quarter was calculated to be towards the
northwest at a gradient of 0.014 ft/ft.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Dot Lofstrom, R.G.
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Mike Kloberdanz, MJK
Robert Fourt, P O Box 1029, Sutter Creek CA 95685
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
