Kloberdanz&Associates (MJK) on
behalf of the above referenced site and has the following comments.
The report documents fieldwork that took place on November 21-22, 2000 when three
groundwater monitoring wells were installed onsite. Soil samples for analysis were
collected every five feet during the drilling of the boreholes, beginning at 35-feet below
surface grade (bsg) in boring MW-3 and at 50-feet bsg in borings MWA and MW-2.
Analytical results were non-detect for all constituents. The wells were built to 70-feet
bsg to monitor the shallow groundwater. The wells were developed and sampled on
November 29, 2000. Results of the analyses showed low levels, less than 13 4g/I, of
petroleum hydrocarbons in each well, but were non-detect for all oxygenate additives.
The report recommends that another round of groundwater monitoring and sampling be
performed prior to proceeding with further investigative work at this site. PHS/EHD
agrees with this recommendation. Quarterly groundwater monitoring should be initiated
at this site and should continue until directed otherwise by PHS/EHD. In addition,
PHS/EHD would like the wells to be resurveyed by a licensed surveyor, to City of
Escalon benchmark#2. The direction of groundwater gradient as monitored on January
11, 2001 was calculated to be nearly 180 degrees opposite of the expected direction.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Dot Lofstrom, R.G.
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Mike Kloberdanz, MJK
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
