L SETTING The site of the proposed Altamont Heights project has been used for dry-land farming and is .. currently planted in oats. Houses and buildings exist on the west side of the site. Byron Bethany Irrigation District's Canal 155, an earthen irrigation canal, weaves through Grant Line Village to the north of the project site. The canal is no longer in use. The California Department of Conservation, Office of Land Conservation, and San Joaquin County have designated the soils on the site as Farmland of Local Importance. The land is not in a Williamson Act contract(EDAW,2005b, Figure 4.2-2). LSIGNIFICANT IMPACTS IDENTIFIED IN 2005 SPIIIEIR The SPHIEIR identified three potentially significant impacts. One involves conversion of agriculturally zoned land on the Pombo property(located northeast of the Mountain House ,m Community)to interim disposal of treated wastewater. This impact does not involve the proposed project. The other two potentially significant impacts are: Impact 4.2-3 Land Use and Agriculture—Direct Conversion of Important Farmland. [Development of Specific Plan HI] would result in the direct conversion of approximately 760 acres of Important Farmland(Prime Farmland and Farmland of r 4-9
