MOUNTAIN MOUSE PROPOSED ALTAMONT HEIGHTS TENTATIVE MAP 4. ENVIRONMENTAL.CHECKLIST
4.5 CULTURAL RESOURCES
Impact 4.6.3: Cultural Resources—Potential to Uncover Human Remains. Subsurface
disturbances could potentially uncover prehistoric Native American burials during construction. A
significant impact would occur.
MITIGATION MEASURES IDENTIFIED IN 2005 SPIIIEIR
The mitigation measures in the SPIREIR require that construction cease if any cultural
resources are uncovered. A qualified professional archaeologist, acceptable to San Joaquin
County, would be consulted to determine what should be done. If human remains are
and the County uncovered construction would cease, coroner would be called. If the coroner
determines that the remains are those of a Native American, a Native American Heritage
Commission (NAHC)representative would be consulted to identify the most likely
descendants and determine the ultimate disposition of the retrains. Implementation of these
mitigation measures would make the impacts less than significant.
DISCUSSION REGARDING PROPOSED PROJECT
a) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance ofa historical resource as
defined in Section 15064.5?
The proposed Altamont Heights project would have no impact on historical resources.
Historically, the project site was used for a dry farming. A review of records of the
California Historical Resources Information System determined that no prehistoric or historic
cultural resources had been identified within, or adjacent to, the project site. An intensive
field inspection of the site, involving transects spaced at intervals of 15 meters or less, found
no evidence of prehistoric and historic cultural resources. The proposed development at the
project site would have no effect to California Register eligible historic resources(Peak&
Associates, 2006). There would be no impact.
Mitigation Measures
No relitigation measures are required.
b) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of an archaeological resource
pursuant to Section 15064.5?
Previous field investigations found no archaeological resources on the project site. The
MHMP, San Joaquin County's Development Title, and the SPIIIEIR include specific
procedures to be followed in the event unknown archaeological resources are uncovered
during construction. The impact would be less than significant.
Mitigation Measures
No mitigation measures are required.
4-2 5
