Soil Suitability Study ** APN: 207-290-56 & 59 ** Designated Remainder Parcel = 15
acres, Parcels 1, 2, 3,& 4, 10 acres each, Total 55 acres** 29707 Grooms Road, Oakdale,
CA 95361
The two (2) series listed are Honcut Sandy Loam and Madera-Alamo Complex with the
Honcut Sandy Loam soil classification being the dominant material present.
HONCUT SANDY LOAM
Honcut Sandy Loam is a very deep, well-drained soil on alluvial fans. Typically
the surface layer is brown and yellowish-brown sandy loam. In some areas the surface
layer is fine sandy loam, coarse sandy loam or gravelly sandy loam.
Permeability is moderately rapid and available water capacity is moderate.
The effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is slow and the hazard of
water erosion is slight. The rate of water intake in irrigated areas is 1.5 inches per hour.
The hazard of soil blowing is moderate.
The soil is good for irrigated crops, orchards and vineyards. Land management
considerations include the hazard of wind blowing.
Chiseling or sub soiling of the soil breaks up the hardpan. There are few
limitations for homesite development.
MADERA-ALAMO COMPLEX
This soil is nearly level on low terraces. The native vegetation is mainly annual
grasses. It is composed of about 65 percent Madera Sandy Loam and 20 percent an Alamo
soil that has overburden of sandy loam. The components of this soil occur as areas that are
intermingled.
The soil is moderately deep to a hardpan and is moderately well drained. Typically the
surface layer is grayish-brown sandy loam about 10 inches deep. The upper part of the
subsoil is brown clay aboutl0 inches thick. The lower part to a depth of 60 inches is a
brown and/or pale brown, hard, silica-cemented hardpan. In some areas the surface layer
is fine sandy loam.
Permeability is very slow in the Madera soil. Available water capacity is low.
Water is briefly perched above the claypan and hardpan after periods of heavy rainfall or
irrigation. The hazard of water erosion is slight. The rate of water intake in irrigated areas
is about 1.5 inches per hour.
The main limitations for home site development are the depth to the very slowly
permeable claypan and hardpan, a high water table, high shrink-swell potential and low
strength in the clayey subsoil. Septic system absorption ability is also highly reduced by
the claypan and hardpan layers.
The characteristics of the two soils to be encountered at various depths below the
ground surface are as follows:
.Toe Dutra Jr 7 D Financial 1500 Standiford Avenue Bldg Cl Oakdale CA 95350 5
