Mr. Bruce Perrson/T.G.S. Trucking
October 27, 1999
Page 2
The second issue pertains to the drainfield replacement area in the event of failure. Due to area
constraints, a filter bed is recommended. Considering the calculated leachline length to be 280
lineal feet, the following filter bed area is required: 280 ft x 3 = 840 sq. ft. Two sites are
proposed for filter bed areas, both based upon 1001/o replacement. These areas are delineated on
the attached Site Plan prepared by Wong Engineers, Inc. The primary filter bed area is located
west of the office in an existing lawn area. The secondary filter bed area is located to the
northeast of the office, in the corner of a fenced area that is presently covered in AB. If there is
failure of the present septic system, it will be a requirement of the Environmental Health
Department to install a flowmeter in conjunction with the filter bed. With regard to nitrate
loading, if the present system should fail, the installment of a filter bed would actually be
beneficial in reducing potential nitrate impact for two reasons: First, shallow placement of
pressurized effluent lines will allow evapotranspiration during favorable weather conditions.
Secondly, the septic effluent is distributed over a larger area than as a point source, such as from a
sump.
We trust this additional information is satisfactory for the Environmental Health Department. If
there should be any questions, or need for additional information, please contact the undersigned.
•r_,e
Respectfully submitted,
.
.
