March 3, 2005
NOA Project Number: E04155A
DBCP,present in the water sample collected, is a nematocide and soil fumigant for vegetables and
grapes. It is thought to cause health problems consisting of kidney damage, liver damage, and
cancer. The use of DBCP was discontinued in 1979. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
F;k, set the maximum contaminant limit (MCL) at 0.2 parts per billion (ppb) because the EPA believes
that given present technology and resources, this is the lowest level to which water systems can
reasonably be required to remove this contaminant should it occur in drinking water. Water
filtration systems are available to remove DBCP.
/4.5 Well Water Sample Collection, Handling, and Transportation
UrThesamples were collected in a clean plastic container, then decanted into clean, glass vials. The
samples were then transported on ice and remanded under chain of custody to Precision Enviro-
k Tech, Stockton.
/4.6 Chain of Custody
The Chain of Custody document has been included in the appendix of this report.
art 1/5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
The Site is depicted on the Geologic Map of the Geologic Map of the Sacramento Quadrangle,
California (1981), as within a region of Quaternary Riverbank Formation and the Quaternary
Turlock Lake Formation. The Riverbank Formation is composed of weathered reddish gravel, sand,
and silt forming clearly recognizable alluvial terraces and fans. The Turlock Lake Formation is a unit
ik
— of deeply weathered arkosic gravels with minor resistant metamorphic tock fragments and quartz
pebbles (Plate 7).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County Soil Survey
to be composed of San Joaquin sandy loam, 2-5 percent slopes (Plate 8) (USDA, 1992). Table 3
presents some selected properties of the soils:
Table 3.
San Joaquin County Soil Survey
Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
j Soil Name Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Perme- Septic tank
and Map (in) rnmhos/ Reaction ability absorption
Symbol cm pH (in/hr) fields
i San Joaquin 0-10: Sandy loam;SM <2 5.6-6.5 0.6-2.0 Severe:
# sandy loam, 10-20: Clay loam,Clay;CL <2 6.1 -7.8 <0.06 cemented
2-5% 20-60: Indurated --- --- pan,peres
slopes,237. slowly
Note:The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
6 .444
