POLICY COVERAGE <br /> Spills of motor vehicle fluids resulting from motor vehicle accidents and having a total volume of less <br /> than 40 gallons. <br /> B. ON-ROADWAY SPILL <br /> Incidents in which the spilled motor vehicle fluids are contained on the roadway and there is minimal <br /> risk of exposure to public. <br /> PROCEDURE <br /> - Absorbent material shall be used to clean up the spilled material. <br /> - Native material located along the roadway may be used. <br /> - Tow truck operators or designated emergency response personnel may be requested to spread the <br /> native or absorbent material on the spill. <br /> - Absorbed material will then be swept to shoulder and spread to dry. <br /> C. OFF-ROADWAY SPILL <br /> In cases where the motor vehicle fluids have spilled off the pavement and <br /> - Are in the soil. <br /> - Have no potential to enter a waterway (i.e., storm drain, ditch, etc.) <br /> - Have no significant potential for public exposure.' <br /> PROCEDURE <br /> - San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) shall be contacted and advised of <br /> the spill circumstances during normal business hours (8AM-5PM, Monday through Friday) & <br /> non-business hours 2 <br /> San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department <br /> Business Hours (209)468-3420 <br /> Non-Business Hours (209)468-6000 <br /> D. WATERWAY AND/OR HEALTH THREAT <br /> In cases where the motor vehicle fluids have spilled off the pavement and do have the potential to enter <br /> a waterway or there is significant potential for public exposure. <br /> PROCEDURE <br /> - The Scene Manager shall have the Environmental Health Department contacted and advised of the <br /> circumstances as soon as possible. <br /> E. OTHER MATERIALS <br /> In motor vehicle accidents involving hazardous materials other than motor vehicle fluids totaling less <br /> than 40 gallons. <br /> PROCEDURE <br /> - Clean up operations will be coordinated by the responsible jurisdiction with consultation from the <br /> Environmental Health Department staff and/or other State agency. <br /> 1. Examples of"significant potential for public exposure" include spills in urban areas, in close proximity to <br /> residences, schools or playgrounds, etc. <br /> 2. Alternative reporting procedures may be arranged with concurrence of the Environmental Health <br /> Department. r <br /> i <br />
