GeoTracker is the interface to the Geographic ,
Environmental Information Management System(GEIMS), a data 1..
warehouse which tracks regulatory data about underground fuel tanks, fuel
pipelines, and public drinking water supplies.
GeoTracker and GEIMS were developed pursuant to a mandate by the
California State Legislature(AB 592, SB 1189)to investigate the feasibility
of establishing a statewide GIS for leaking underground fuel tank(LUFT)
sites. In its pilot phase, GeoTracker assembled well, tank, and pipeline data st
from two study areas, Santa Clara and Santa Monica. Now, GeoTracker
contains well, tank, and pipeline data from all of California. This makes it
an important resource to both regulators and the public.
sQ WHAT IS GEIMS?
gL;q GEIMS
GEIMS,the data warehouse that is the backbone of GeoTracker, was created aft
extensive review of multiple environmental databases. GEIMS can store extensi
data related to LUFT sites, or any other contaminant release. In addition, GEIM
e+. used to store and display information from various agencies including water qua
information, water use information, and infrastructure data needed to assess bot
\ water supplies and contaminant sites.
WHY GEOTRACKER AND GEIMS ARE IMPORTANT:
Online access to a centralized database will improve management of
underground storage tanks and public drinking water wells.
GeoTracker uses commercial) available software to allow users to access irk unaw,a Fnd Toch Report r..:
Y syw(s..a cam,
data from GEIMS over the intemet. Potential users include multiple I Wm Ave
regulatory agencies, water suppliers, oil companies, responsible parties and
their consultants, and the public at large. For the State Water Resource rmtar's"`'"`""°°
Control Board's groundwater quality assessment goal, GEIMS has been
ago 11M]04
populated with LUFT, public drinking water well, and fuel pipeline for --$.
California. GeoTracker demonstrates how regulatory personnel, responsible — - ---- - -- - --
parties, and all stakeholders can efficiently access the same data and an s
identical set of analytical tools. The readily accessible database results in ' " 't°
less duplication of effort and improved communication between
stakeholders.
GIS determines the distance between contaminant sites and sensitive drin
i 1 }r water sources.
