Except for vacations
and two years in the Peace Corps, we have lived here for 51 years. For us, this street offers the
best location in the Stockton area, for a home with a relaxing, healthful setting.
Hubbard Avenue is a short, quiet, dead-end, country lane, with minimal traffic, considerate
neighbors, and a feeling of rural life. Yet it offers the advantages of easy access to the freeway,
and being only minutes from the essentials in the city. Because of its peaceful setting, we have
never considered moving, and we would OPPOSE any activity or business that would intrude on the
wholesome, country living available here.
I am familiar with the county's business permit applications and the consideration needed for the
surrounding residents. For several years in the 1960's, when there were fewer homes on Hubbard
Avenue, we acquired a permit and operated the Bordane Kennels, for boarding large dogs. Later,
in the 1970's, I applied for a permit to have a one person, owner operated, advertising business in
our home. A few neighbors objected to the idea of my having clients drive to our house, which
would increase the traffic and noise. Also, they did not want a sign posted along the street. I was in
complete agreement with their objections, and assured those at the hearing, that there would be no
sign, and that I would be meeting with my clients at THEIR business locations. The objections were
dropped, and the permit was granted. By complying with the agreement, the neighborhood was not
affected in any way, and most residents were unaware that there was a fulltime business at our
address until January of 2000. Hubbard Avenue has remained a quiet country road, and we hope
this will continue, c use our environment provides advantages for all
of the families living here.
Sincerely, . _04 d_ , .
Dai a m re Ruth A.
