The borings
r it i were four inches in diameter and were excavated by hand auger. The shallow boring
was 3.35 feet deep; the deep boring was 11.75 feet deep. The boring locations are
indicated on Plate 2.
The soil in the borings was within the range of what would be anticipated based on the
i Soil Survey data reviewed. Soils encountered ranged from silty clay at the surface to /5
fine sand with silt at ten feet depth. A soil log is attached as Plate 11.
Discussion of Soil Lithology
Based on the soils observed in the borings, there appears to be moderate potential for r
percolation within the shallow zone and good potential for percolation within the deep
soil zone. The deeper soil consisted of fine sand with silt, and sandy soils generally
have a much greater potential for percolation than fine-grained or cemented soils.
However, a percolation test is the only accepted method for determining the suitability of
the soils for a septic disposal area. Percolation test results are discussed in the
following section.
Percolation Test
Two percolation tests, one shallow and one deep, were conducted on the Site; the soil
borings discussed above were used for the percolation test holes (Plate 2). Percolation
test procedures conformed to San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
policy.
LOGE0914 Page 5
