s
3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
Air sparging with soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE) was selected as the most cost effective remedial
alternative to mitigate subsurface impacts to below risk-based levels. Air sparging will remediate
groundwater and saturated soils by stripping organics, and introducing oxygen for biodegradation.
A total of four(4) air sparge wells are proposed to address dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons. The
following scope of work is proposed to complete the air sparge well installations.
3.1 Health and Safety Plan
Prior to conducting any site activities, SECOR will implement a site-specific health and safety plan
for drilling activities as required by 29 CFR 1910.120. The health and safety plan details field
procedures regarding various potential health and safety hazards that may be encountered during site
activities.
3.2 Permitting
SECOR will obtain the necessary permits required by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Division for the air sparge well installations.
3.3 Utility Clearance
Prior to any field work, SECOR will conduct a utility clearance of the drilling area to ensure that
subsurface utilities are not intercepted during drilling activities. Additionally, Underground Service
Alert (USA) will be notified by SECOR at least 48 hours prior to drilling.
3.4 Soil Sampling
Four soil borings will be advanced at the site at the locations depicted on Figure 2. The soil borings
will be drilled with a truck-mounted drill rig utilizing 8-inch outside diameter hollow-stem augers.
Three of the borings will be advanced to a depth of approximately 90 feet below ground surface. The
fourth soil boring in the vicinity of MW-1 will be advanced to 100 feet bgs to address deeper
hydrocarbon inpacts in that area. Samples will be collected every S feet or at obvious changes in
lithology using a split spoon sampler. Soil samples and drill cuttings will be logged by a SECOR
geologist using the Unified Soil Classification System. In addition, all soil samples and drill cuttings
will be screened utilizing a photoionization detector(PID) or equivalent equipment. These readings
and any subjective evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons will be recorded on the boring logs. Because
previous investigations at the Site have adequately characterized the extent of hydrocarbon impacts,
none of the collected soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis.
Lockspar.wp I SECOR
Job No.7"5-001-02 June 7,1999
3
