L <br /> SEAFTLE <br /> TACDMA <br /> PORTLAND <br /> STOCKTON <br /> RENO <br /> RICHTIME OIL MOND <br /> LOS ANGELES `I 4 ° y w <br /> - 2737 WEST COMMODORE WAY`, BATTLE WA 98199 1233 <br /> P80DU[;T5 P O BOX 24447 SEAT7L+ WA 98124 0447 <br /> \TIME TESTED <br /> May 18, 1995 <br /> Mr Harlan Knoll <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> P O Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, California 95201 <br /> RE Submittal of Environmental Investigation Report for <br /> Jackpot Food Mart, 14000 E Highway 88, Lockeford, California (Property No 04-049) <br /> Dear Mr Knoll, <br /> In September 1991, three underground storage tanks were removed from the above-referenced property <br /> as part of a facility upgrade Based on the analytical results of samples collected at the time of the tank <br /> removal, a site investigation was initiated in August 1992 to determine the extent of impacted sods The <br /> results of the assessment suggested that soil contamination was limited to the vicinity of the former tank <br /> bed, however, during the advancement of venfication borings in December 1993, unexpected sod <br /> contamination was encountered to the northeast of the former tanks <br /> At the request of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division <br /> (PHSIEHD), an additional environmental investigation was implemented in December 1994 to determine <br /> the extent of the newly identified soil contamination Please find enclosed Science & Engineering <br /> Analysis Corporation's (SECOR) "Environmental Investigation Report" dated May 4, 1995, which <br /> documents the results of the additional investigation <br /> For your convenience a summary of previous environmental activities is included as Attachment 1 <br /> Additional Environmental Investigation- December 1994 <br /> While conducting field activities during the weeks of December 20 and 27, 1994, hydrocarbon-impacted <br /> groundwater was encountered while attempting to define the vertical extent of soil contamination <br /> Therefore, four groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-4) were installed and one soil boring <br /> (SB-11)was advanced in an attempt to define the extent of contamination in both media <br /> As in previous site activities, soils encountered during drilling consisted of fine silty sands to <br /> approximately 15 feet below ground surface (bgs), this strata was underlain by fine to coarse sands to <br /> approximately 30 feet bgs Clayey silt was generally encountered at 30 feet to 35 feet while fine to <br /> coarse sands and gravelly sands were encountered to 70 feet bgs Silty clay with sandy and gravelly <br /> stringers was encountered from 70 feet bgs to the extent of each boring Groundwater was first <br /> encountered at depth 85 feet bas The location of each boring is presented on Figure 2 and boring logs <br /> are located in Appendix C of SECOR s report <br /> MW-1 was installed to the northeast of the currently operating pump islands, MW-2 was installed to the <br /> east of MW-1, MW-3 was installed to the southeast of the former tank bed, and MW-4 was installed to <br /> the southwest of the former tank bed (presumably downgradient) Each of the wells was constructed of <br />
