16 <br /> locating and marking underground utilities at the site Underground Service Alert (USA) was <br /> ' notified 48 hours before the drilling start date for clearing and locating public utilities off site <br /> ' <br /> 32 Soilr <br /> Bo in s <br /> ' On December 20 through December 27, 1994, SECOR supervised the drilling of five soil <br /> borings and the construction of four groundwater monitor wells at the site The approximate <br /> ' location of these groundwater monitoring wells and other selected site features are shown on <br /> Figure 2 The soil borings were advanced to a depth of approximately 100 feet bgs using a <br /> ' CME-55 drill rig equipped with 8 5--inch outside diameter hollow--stem augers operated by Geo- <br /> Environmental Drilling Corporation of Yuba City, California An attempt was made to construct <br /> ' a fifth well within SB-I I however, the drilling contractor was unable to continue due to auger <br /> refusal at approximately 78 feet bgs <br /> The drilling was supervised by a field geologist working under the direction of a State of <br /> California registered geologist A continuous log of materials encountered while drilling was <br /> completed by the field geologist and described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification <br /> System (Appendix A) <br /> ' <br /> 33 Soil Sampling <br /> ' Soil samples were collected during drilling using a modified split-spoon sampler containing <br /> three, 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long brass sample tubes The tubes were field screened for <br /> ' volatile organic compounds using a photoionization detector (PID) calibrated to an isobutlyene <br /> standard Soil samples collected were sealed with aluminum foil, plastic caps and tape The soil <br /> ' samples were labeled with the appropriate borehole information, time and date of collection, and <br /> placed on ice for subsequent transport to and analysis at a State of California certified analytical <br /> ' laboratory Chain-of-custody procedures were followed at all times <br /> Nuons oni M <br /> '1](kl RPi \tri >> <br />
