Mr Harlan Knoll 4 July 24, 1992
A letter report will be prepared to summarize the results of the soil-vapor survey This
report will Include the proposed placement of soil borings and monitoring wells for
Phase ll activities
Phase it - Drilling Program
Based upon data collected to date, the proposed Phase II program Includes the
Installation of approximately 8 investigative soil borings which will be advanced to a
minimum depth of approximately 40 feet. The locations of these soil borings will be
proposed in the Soil Vapor Survey Letter Four of the soil borings will be converted
to ground water monitoring/vapor extraction wells, as appropriate (ground water depth
Is expected to be at approximately 70 feet).
Canonie proposes to use a truck-mounted flight auger rig for the drilling program This
rig uses hollow stem augers and can sample with either a split spoon sampler or a dry
core system. For the current sampling scheme, it is assumed that split spoon
sampling will be used. Over drilling the boring with a 10 or 12-inch diameter auger
will provide sufficient annular space for a 4-inch diameter well During drilling and
well Installation a Canonie engineer/geologist will supervise the drilling subcontractor,
fog the soil samples and drill cuttings, and obtain samples for screening and chemical
analyses
Samples for chemical analysis will be obtained from a minimum of two discreet
intervals per soil boring and at any changes in lithology, as designated by the field
engineer or geologist. Samples will be collected using a split-spoon sampler lined with
brass tubes These samples will be field screened for the presence of volatiles using
a Photo-Ionization Detector (PID), or equivalent The ends of the brass tubes will be
wrapped with aluminum foil, covered with plastic caps. The brass tubes will be
labeled and sealed in a Ziplockn' bag.
Samples taken for chemical analyses will be labeled with the sample location, depth
interval, date, job number, and sampler's initials Each sample will be recorded on a
chain-of-custody form which will be maintained with the cooler. Samples collected
will be placed immediately in a cooler with ice, and transported the same day to the
laboratory for analysis, when possible. The ice pack in the cooler will be replaced
with a fresh ice pack before transportation. Soil samples will be analyzed for TPH-G
by EPA Method 8015 (modified), BTEX by EPA Method 8020, and EDB by AB 1803.
All down-hole equipment will be steam-cleaned prior to each boring, and the split-
spoon sampler will be washed in a solution of trisodium phosphate (TSP), or
equivalent, and rinsed with potable water between each sample run. All soil cuttings
and steam cleaning water will be contained in 55 gallon drums. These drums will be
moved to a temporary on-site storage area designated by Time 011. i
PUS1-6341REPORTSILOCKEFOR RPT IJuly 22. 19921 CanoweEnvlronmental
