� p r <br /> MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM <br /> Prior to assignment to any task requiring a level of personnel protection above Level D, <br /> personnel will submit evidence that they have received a physical examination within the <br /> previous twelve months which incorporates the following: <br /> An occupational and general physical history <br /> Complete physical examination <br /> Chest X-ray <br /> Audiometric exam for persons working around drill rigs <br /> Laboratory testing of blood <br /> Vision test <br /> Electrocardiogram <br /> Symptoms of Overexposure: Petroleum vapors may be irritating to the skin, eyes, and <br /> respiratory tract. These vapors may also affect the central nervous system and may cause <br /> headaches and dizziness. <br /> First Aid Procedures: Eye contact: Flush eyes with clear water for 10 minutes or <br /> until irritation subsides. See a physician. <br /> Skin contact: Wash thoroughly with soap and clean water. <br /> Inhalation: Leave area of vapor exposure. Call physician and <br /> start resuscitation immediately if breathing has <br /> stopped. <br /> Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, call physician <br /> immediately. <br /> To aid in the prevention of heat stress, the following will be provided for personnel working <br /> at the site: <br /> • Potable water will be within easy access to all workers. <br /> • Work/rest regimens will be developed. The initial work schedule will consist of a 55- <br /> minute work regime followed by a 5-minute rest period. This work schedule will be <br /> modified as necessary to conform with the heat stress monitoring criteria outlined <br /> below. <br /> Personnel will be instructed to look for the following initial symptoms of heat stress: <br /> • Heat Exhaustion <br /> Pale, clammy skin <br /> Profuse perspiration <br /> Tiredness, weakness <br /> Headache, cramps <br /> Nausea, dizziness (possible vomiting and fainting) <br /> • Heat Stroke <br /> High body temperature <br /> Skin is characteristically hot, red, and dry <br />
