5.0 PROCEDURES
To meet the project objectives, the following procedures will be performed
1) Prepare a site health and safety plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities- Prepared by National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, US Coast Guard and US Environmental Protection Agency,
October 1985
2) Notify the EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work
3) Drill a total of four (4) soil borings The soil borings will be drilled to maximum
depths of 85 feet utilizing a hollow-stem auger drill ng The estimated boring
locations are depicted on Figure 2
4) Collect and log soil samples at 5-foot intervals, B7 should be continuously cored
Auger returns will be logged in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification
System Samples will be obtained using a split-spoon sampler loaded with three pre-
cleaned brass tubes
5) Complete B5 and B6 as 2-inch groundwater monitoring wells (MW-5 and MW-6)
Monitoring wells will be developed using a surge block The well design is illustrated
in Figure 3 The remaining soil borings will be backfilled to the surface with
concrete
6) Decontaminate sampling equipment in a tri-sodium phosphate solution (TSP) and
rinse twice with water prior to each sampling run
7) Preserve soil samples in the lead brass tube by covering both ends with aluminum
sheets, capping and sealing with tape
8) Label and log soil samples on a chain of custody form
9) Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled container to a
State certified laboratory for analysis Approximately (14) soil samples will be
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gas) and volatile aromatics
(BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020, respectively
10) Monitor auger returns and soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile
organics using a photo-ionization detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene
11) Place auger returns in DOT-approved drums and stored on-site pending analytical
results of soil samples
660go1 A.du s.— Ina
l,wfwd$yeon WPA1 9jA6IV3
