rFborning.
test borings were pre-saturated in the late afternoon of July 2 after conductija
nother location in Lathrop. Pre-saturation consisted of filling the borings to
mately 75%of their capacity with water after the 3-inch PVC pipe was place
The percolation tests were conducted on July 3.
7. Due to the existing nitrate contamination problem in this locale,EHD recommends tfilter bed be installed for the Bay Storage facility instead of leachlines and seepage pspecified in the Nitrate Loading Study. According to Section 8.7.4. of the San JoaquSewage Standards, the required lineal feet of leachline (LFLL) is to be multiplied by(sandy soils based on pert rate), which gives the required square footage of filter bed264 LFLL (from Page 9 of Report) x 3 = 792 sq. ft. A leachfield area consisting of t
leachlines 14 feet wide (outside leachline trench to outside leachline trench)was
originally specified. Therefore, the filter bed area may consist of 14 x 57= 798 sq. ft.
Five foot setbacks around the filter bed must be maintained.
By installing a filter bed instead of leachlines and seepage pits, the clay fraction of the
surface soils will assist in promoting the denitrification capabilities of the soil. Secondly,
the filter bed design will also be conducive to evapotranspiration during the favorable
months of the year(May through September). These two factors should alleviate the
nitrate loading to a greater extent than leachlines and seepage pits.
ya< < .
Respectfully submitted,
CHESNEY CONSULTING
"0*
No.:O675 1R
Epires
Don Cheey, R.E.A.
Op
C&mq Consulting
