i
11
CPC CARD 2003 Cer iftsUm Yesties Paso B
4.1.1.1. TRC Transportable Continuous Emission MorWoft System f TCEMs)
Gaseous measurements were conducted with the use of TRCs€CEML The system is a complete stand.
alone measurement trailer that houses the Reference Method Instrumentation and data acquisition system
necessary to support continuous stack gas measurements. TRC uses an extractive system for sample gas
collection and moosurement, and records ail diluent and pollutant data In concentration on a dry basis.
CARE Method 100 Irx*jdes sMct quality control performance speclhcatlor>s for the TCEMs measurement
system. Prior to the k0lation of ftre field sample-0 TRC conducts a*setup day'that involves a number of Wfid
system checks, site evaluafiam and general acceptance runs.AN these checks are guided by TRC Standard
Openating Procedures and are completed prior to the conduct of the official test runs. Normally, this setup
period Is conducted one day betas the testing. The folowirsg general procedures are followed, where
applicable.
+L Power the TCEMS troller and instrumentation.
.1. Install TCEMs sampling One.
4 Measure stack dimensions.
4. Set up and leak check TCEMs sample collection and conditioning system.
.L Calibrate TCEMs analyzers.
4 Conduct a systems bias check.
l Conduct a response time test.
The following Is the standard TRC sequence of operations conducted to calibrate the TCEMs analyzers. This
activity precedes the system bias, response fiime, stratftallon,or other measurements macre through the
TCEMs.
Z Complete the analyzers setup as described by the manufacturer specifications and allow the
Instrument to stablilre.
Z indicate on the DAS printout when and what gases is Introduced to the different analyzers. For
each analyzer, first Introduce a zero cailbrafion gas (far oxygen, a gas containing 0.1 to 2
percent may be required for some analyzers). Allow the reading to stabilize and adjust the
instrument zero,as required.
4. Next,Introduce to the analyser a calibration gas, which is 80-100 percent of the analyzer span.
Allow the analyzer to stabilize and adjust the span If necessary. if no adjustment to the span
was necessary, record the zero and high-range cylinder and anayzer Information on the
appropriate form.
-4 ff adjustments to the analyzer span are required during the step, repeat until no adjustments
are needed and record the zero and high range information on the form.
4. Introduce to the analyzer a Calibration gas 40 to 60 percent of the analyzer span and allow the
analyzer to stabilize. Record on the appropriate form the anoyzer response to the mid-range
gas.
4. Calculate the analyzer percent difference or calibration error. AN analyzer calibration
responses must be witNn t2 percent of the span volue,
4. Repeat the procedures for all analyzers.
The output signals of the TCEMS analyzers are connected to a data acquisition system. The output voltage
that Is sent to the digital data acquisition system, for each specific Instrument. Is a voltage that is linear and
directly proportional to the concentration of the specific gas being measured.
4,1.1.2. DAS System
This includes a Yokogawo Data Logger that processes the output of the analyzer signals, and develops
continuous one minute and test period average values for each measured parameter. The data
representing the onalymos) calibration values and test period average values ore entered into proven
computer rouWms for final calculations of emissions. As a data backup, the two-second data is
confinuousy downloaded to a spreadsheet file on a personal computer.
r"Wrt
TRC E NVIROWMEWAL CORPORATION! 496140DOO.p00 O
C:\PropeCrs\CPC 49614.000a00MDo=\CPC WoMan 50 Report Ver--2 doc
