RECLAMATION PLAN
George Reed, Inc.
Page Six
E. Drainage: Drainage is not a problem for this project. Water is naturally absorbed in
the soil. During extreme precipitation there may be water standing in the excavated
area which is simply pumped off as necessary. Erosion of disturbed land and
sedimentation will be minimized by planting row crops or grasses in the interim and
prior to total reclamation in each phase. Planting of walnut trees will occur in 20 +/-
acre increments as excavation allows.
F. Disposition of Old Eguipment: No permanent structures or buildings are involved
in this project. All equipment to be used at the project site is portable and easily
removed from the site upon completion of excavation and reclamation.
G. Revezetation: There is an abundance of topsoil available for reclamation purposes.
After excavation activities cease the replaced topsoil is ripped and leveled in
preparation for planting. Walnut trees are usually planted by hand early spring of the
year as weather allows. Soil amendments, fertilizer, etc., is placed at the discretion
of the Farm Contractor in charge of the farming operations. Irrigation of existing
crops is obtained from the river by pump. This may not be sufficient to provide
water and pressure necessary for the sprinkler system to be installed. If necessary, a
well will be drilled on-site for that purpose.
H. Monitoring and Maintenance: Walnut trees are expensive and require land
preparation prior to planting as well as constant maintenance and monitoring by the
Owner and Farm Contractor. To ensure successful planting and future crops the
orchard will be maintained by the Farm Contractor regularly. If there is a tree
failure it will be replanted. This owner/operator using the services of a qualified
Farm Contractor has successfully reclaimed 280 acres of mined lands back to
almond/walnut orchards which maintain the county average in production each year.
1. In-stream Mining: In-stream mining does not apply to this project.
J. Future Mining: This project will deplete existing mineral resources within the
project area. It will not preclude future mining on lands adjacent or near
the project area.
K. Public Safety: Access to the project area is by private road which does not allow
public access. Private property surrounding the project area does not allow public
trespassing. Security is on-site and gates are locked when operation is closed.
Revised 4/25/00
