FFna
the Site Plan, the groundwater directional flow places MW#1 downgradient from
% of the entire subject property acreage. It was assumed there would be a high
ntration in MW#1, comparable with that found in the water table samples.
referenced above, the nitrate concentration in MW#1 was 8 times lower than theitrate concentration.
The groundwater gradient as determined by the John P. Cummings Map is 0.0007 ft/ft, which is
very flat. The velocity of the groundwater under the subject site can be roughly estimated to be
approximately 30 feet/yr based upon studies with similar gradients and saturated formations. If
the diagonal distance (direction of groundwater flow) across APN 190-230-07 is approximately
1,000 feet, then it would theoretically take a nitrate molecule in the top unconfined aquifer 33
years to traverse the entire diagonal length of the subject property. Hayres Egg Farms was in
existence for more than 50 years, according to EHD.
E. SURFACE WATER INFORMATION
On-site surface water retention ponds must be constructed for each of the proposed
improvements on both subject parcels. Potential nitrate impact from stormwater impoundments
can be viewed in two ways: Stormwater percolation from retention ponds through the soil profile
will carry an indeterminable percentage of soil nitrate into the water table. However, since the
retention ponds will be excavated into the soil profile, the distance between the floor of the ponds
and the static water table will be reduced, thereby reducing the nitrate potential entering the
water table. Secondly, stormwater runoff from roofs, paved, concreted and aggregate base
compacted areas should contain no nitrate. Consequently, this 'clean" non-nitrate laden water
will create a dilution effect upon entering the water table.
III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY RESULTS
A. WASTEWATER FLOW PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
In accordance with requirements of the Environmental Health Department, this Nitrate Loading
Study is to quantify the number of people (employees, customers, etc.) the two subject parcels
can support individually, without exceeding the MCL for nitrate.
To determine nitrate-nitrogen loading from the project, wastewater flows must be determined as
accurately as possible. Typically, loading projections are based on the maximum or total number
of employees and customers who may potentially use the toilet/sink, etc. on a workday basis.
It is assumed there will be no cooking within kitchen/office areas in any of the existing or future
buildings, and consequently no need for garbage disposals. Therefore, there should be no highly
concentrated organic loading. The characteristics of the wastewater flow will be predominately
blackwater from toilets, with a comparatively small volume of graywater from sinks, or other
8
Chesney Consufting
