i.
CFA. ASTEWATER FLOW PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICSaracteristics of the wastewater flow will be predominately blackwater from toilets,a comparablee of gray water from sinks, a dishwasher and two showers,and possible other sources of gray water.preparation will occur within"kitchen/break"areas of the new office building. Itis imperative that
all food and food by-products be handled as a solid waste. The Office Trailers will have no food
preparation,etc. Therefore,wastewater characteristics from the Office Trailers will be predominately
blackwater.
Additional wastewater constituents may consist of coffee,juices or other similar type liquids to the system.
It is imperative that no industrial or commercial chemicals,solvents,excessive cleaners, etc. are introduced
into the septic system,as well as other items such as sanitary napkins,any paper products other than toilet
paper,cloth,plastic, cigarettes,etc. It is also imperative that no garbage disposals are installed. This will
prevent concentrated organic loading and prolong the lifespan of the wastewater disposal system.
WASTEWATER FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS
A number of variables are involved in estimating wastewater Average Daily Flows(ADF) from a
commercial facility. Wastewater flow volume projections for facilities in unsewered areas of San Joaquin
County have been historically and typically calculated under the following guidelines and scenarios:
I. Data published in the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards.
2. Data published in the scientific literature.
3. Number of bathroom fixtures for a facility,leading to calculated bathroom use per capita.
4. Number of parking spaces for a facility.
5. Maximum number of known people on-site (e.g., employees, customers, etc.).
6. Historical wastewater flow data from an existing or comparable facility.
The following list of flow projection determinations describe the rationale for arriving at the average daily
effluent flow volumes for the West Lathrop Business Park:
I. The San Joaquin County Sewage Standards assigns 25 gallons per person for Industrial Buildings
with a food consumption area. At this time however, it is unknown how many people will be on-
site in the new Office Building after full occupancy, and during different times of the day or
different days of the week. With regard to the Office Trailers occupancy, a maximum of 10 people
per day is projected. Assigning 15 gallons per person since there will be no food preparation area,
simply gives an ADF of 150 gallons per day(gpd)for the Office Trailers.
2. The total number of fixtures for the new Office Building is proposed to be the following for the
entire,built-out office complex:
Toilets/Urinals= 14. The Sewage Standards assign 150 gallons per toilet fixture(employee/public use).
Sinks= 10
Showers=2(Mens/Womens)
Dishwasher= 1
3. Assign the maximum number of flushes of all on-site toilets that could occur over an eight-hour
day. It can be reasonably concluded that a near-maximum of 6 flushes per hour(1 flush/l0 min)
could occur daily.
13
Chesney Consulting
