Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
Dear Ms. Mueller:
Thank you for the Opportunity to review the Site Approval Application (SA-01-49) for
Triple "E" Engineers to construct a motel, restaurant, and mini market gas station on the
northwest corner of Mariposa Road and State Route (SR) 99 (APN 173-070-34). The
proposed project is in a location that may conflict with the future modification of the
Mariposa Road/ SR 99 interchange, as part of the SR 99 widening project (EA 3A100K).
After extensive review and consultation with our functional units, Caltrans has
determined that, regardless of the SR 99 widening alternative chosen, the location of the
future southbound Mariposa Road offramp remains the same. Therefore, Caltrans has the
following comments:
Hydrology
As part of Caltrans meeting with the applicant on 7/16/01, the issue of stormwater
drainage was discussed at length. In that meeting, Caltrans explained the applicant would
be responsible for relocating the drainage retention basin (Shown on plans dated
12/10/01) when the Mariposa Road/ State Route 99 interchange is modified as part of EA
3A100K. Therefore, in order to prevent future conflicts with the drainage issue, Caltrans
recommends relocation of the retention basin, as part of SA-01-49 approval, to an area
that will not conflict with Caltrans future project. In addition, Caltrans requests dedication
of the land between the project's proposed eastern boundary and SR 99 to accommodate
the future offramp.
Traffic Operations/Safety
Also as part of the July 16th meeting, Caltrans requested the relocation of the projects
proposed main entrance to directly opposite the Mariposa Road southbound off/onramp
from/to SR 99. Caltrans emphasized that, when the interchange modification began, the
main access would require relocation. The applicant submitted a traffic analysis, dated
10/4/01, and subsequent site plans, dated 12/10/01, with the main entrance location
approximately 40 feet west of the recommended location.
