Soil Analytical Chemical Test Results
Soil samples for analytical testing were retrieved from the depths referenced below, in Table 2.
The attached Soil Analysis Report illustrates the test results. Analyzed constituents relating to
nitrate loading include the organic matter content of the soil,pH, Cation Exchange Capacity
(CEC), and the nitrate-nitrogen content. The organic matter is low throughout the shallow soil
profile, indicating a low contribution of nitrogen release. The pH is alkaline at each tested depth.
This alkalinity can inhibit nitrification and promote denitrification. The CEC indicates the soil
potential to retain ammonium molecules that are in the septic system effluent. Therefore, the CEC
has a high potential to inhibit nitrification, and is high in the soil profile. Of significance are the
nitrate-nitrogen concentrations at each depth, revealing a low concentrations throughout the soil
profile down to 8.75 ft. The Table below summarizes the important soil parameters analyzed:
TABLE 2
SUMMARY OF SOIL ANALYSIS
DEPTH OF UNIFIED SOIL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM NITRATE-N pH/CEC
SAMPLE SOIL TEXTURES(FOR EAST BORINGS ONLY) CONTENT
0-12 Inches Clay Loam/Silty Lean Clay 3 ppm 7.5/30.2
42 Inches Clay Loam/Silty Lean Clay 4 ppm 8.2/25.5
105 Inches Loam/Silt 3 ppm 8.1/22.6
Page -4- J
Chesney
age -4-
Chesney Consulting
