CFR 17.12 for listed plants; various notices in the Federal Register for proposed
species);
■ plants and animals that are category 1 or 2 candidates for possible future listing
as threatened or endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act (50
FR 39526, September 27, 1985, for plants; 54 FR 554, January 6, 1989, for
animals);
■ plants and animals listed or proposed for listing as threatened or endangered
under the California Endangered Species Act(California Department of Fish and
Game 1988);
■ plants and animals that meet the definitions of rare or endangered under the
California Environmental Quality Act;
■ plants considered by the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) to be rare,
threatened, or endangered in California and elsewhere (Smith and Berg 1988);
■ animals listed by the State of California as threatened and endangered species
(14 Cal. Admin. Code 670.5);
■ animals of special concern in California (Remsen 1978, Williams 1986); and
■ animals fully protected in California (California Fish and Game Code, Sections
3511, 4700, 5050, and 5515).
Some plants listed by CNPS as "plants about which we need more information" and
plants of limited distribution (Smith and Berg 1988) may be included as special-status
species on the basis of local significance or recent biological information.
Plant Species
Special-status plants that have potential to occur at the project site are listed in
_ Table 1. Some special-status plants known to occur in San Joaquin County were not
included in Table 1 because the habitats these plants are associated with were not found on
the project site. For example,Atripler cordulata and Cordylanthus palmatus are not included
because alkaline chenopod scrub habitat is not found on the project site. No special-status
plants were found at the project site during field surveys. A search of the database did not
identify any special-status plants on the project site or in a 10-mile radius of the area.
17
