In addition, effluent filters are specified to be installed at the outlets of the first two tanks. This
will provide extra insurance against particulate material flowing into subsequent tanks, or more
critically, into the disposal area soils.
To efficiently assist with the anaerobic digestion of the wastes entering the septic system, it is
recommended that biodegradable toilet paper be used in each of the restrooms. A number of
brands are available (e.g., Scott Tissue) and sometimes are referred to as "rapid dissolve."
After the completed construction of the new mound, the existing mound will become part of the
100%replacement/reserve area and will be "shut-off'by the use of a valve. The replacement area
is required when the new primary area fails. All septic systems have a lifespan, which can be
measured in years or decades.
A lifespan is usually indeterminable due to the large number of variables involved. Given my
observations of the lateral risers and the amount of biomat contained within them, it appears
remarkable that the system has not completely failed.
Scientific evidence indicates that septic disposal areas can rejuvenate given time for what is
referred to as "rest and rehabilitate."This primarily refers to the degradation and decomposition of
biomat formation. When the time comes to reactivate the existing mound many years from now,
it is recommended that a professional plumbing/septic system company clean out the laterals
using an acceptable cleaning material such as hydrogen peroxide. At that time, the new and
existing mounds may alternate in accepting effluent to add substantial lifespan to the entire
system.
It is imperative that no food materials enter the septic system from the kitchenettes. All food and
food byproducts material must be handled as solid wastes by scraping food from utensils before
being washed in the dishwashers.
This concludes my analysis and recommendations of the existing wastewater management system.
If there should be any questions, please contact me.
Respectfully submitted,
CHESNEY CONSULTING eaQtoteasioo
gq°cD Chesdo 0
0 o.7.4;479 i
}
Don Chesney, PE
Registered Civil Engineer C75479 CJvil pts
e Of CIA lit°t
APPENDIX B: Southwinds Church Demographics
Page 4 of 4
Chesney Consulting
