II. SOIL AND GROUNDWATER DATA
SOIL ANALYSIS
Acreage currently owned and farmed by the Tosta's which accept dairy-produced nutrients:
APN# LOCATION ACRES FARMED WASTE TYPE APPLIED
209-290-07 Home dairy site 26 liquid/solid
209-290-06 South of home dairy 36 liquid/solid
209-300-18 West of home dairy 96 liquid/solid
212-090-01 Lammers Road 99 solid
239-160-15,16 Kasson Road 156 solid
Total acreage= 413 Ac
The following information was obtained from the Soil Survey of San Joaquin County and relates
to the soil type for each of the waste application acreage:
HOME DAIRY ACREAGE:
Consists predominately of Egbert silty clay loam. Permeability is slow with the rate of water
intake at 0.3 inches per hr. Due to restricted permeability, water applications need to be regulated
so that water does not stand and damage crops. Irrigation can increase the water table elevation.
Due to slow permeability, water runoff can be high. Prevention of runoff into Nagler Canal is
accomplished by a dirt road with berms.
_ LAMMERS ROAD:
Consists of 60% Merrit silty clay loam and 40% Egbert silty clay loam. Soil is silty clay loam in
top 15 inches. The subsoil is a grayish silty clay loam about 27 inches thick. The lower
substratum to 60 inches is light brown silt loam. Permeability is slow at 0.3 in/hr. Solid manure
applications only.
KASSON ROAD:
Consists predominately of Willows clay at 20 inches deep and a grayish brown mottled clay to 60
inches deep. Restricted permeability with a water intake of approximately 0.1 in/hr. Irrigation
must be applied carefully to prevent runoff. Solid manure applications only.
Soil Analysis Reports found in the Appendix indicate the results of the constituents tested. Sample
Number F 123 references analytical test results from soil samples obtained from application fields
surrounding the home dairy. Sample Number FLD #4 refers to the test results from Lammers
Road acreage and FLD #5 refers to the Kasson Road acreage test results. Information obtained
from chemical analyses of the subject soils indicate that the application fields possess medium-to-
high organic matter and low-to-medium nitrate-nitrogen content. The Estimated Nitrogen
Release (ENR) demonstrates residual nitrogen within the soil profile, however, an increase in
2
Vaffey Ag Ppearch
