5.2 Description of soil profile pit including depth and dimensions: The shallow test holes were
prepared per County Standards. The holes were excavated to a depth of 42 inches and 8 inches in
diameter. They were backfilled with 2 inches of"pea gravel."
5.3 Description of soil lithology as noted from test pit by appropriate professional using industry
standard protocol: The soil in this area is classified as Redding gravelly loam and San Joaquin sandy
loam as stated in the Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California as provided by the United States
Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service.
5.4 Discussion of soil lithology as related to future onsite septic uses: The Redding gravel loam and
San Joaquin sandy loam have very low permeability thus; percolation rates were slow as demonstrated
by the failure of one shallow percolation test. (See Appendix).
6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION SECTION
6.1 Site Map Showing the location, with concise and accurate dimensions of the percolation test
holes on the parcel: See Appendix.
6.2 The Minimum Number of Shallow and Deep Percolation Tests was Performed for Each
Parcel: Four shallow percolation test holes were prepared, one on each of the four parcels. An
additional shallow hole was prepared due to the failure of one of the original shallow holes.
6.3 Description of the Date, Time and Protocol Used to Prepare the Test Hole, Including Depth
and Dimensions of Hole, Preparation of Hole, and Depth of Water Used to Presoak (Minimum 12
Inches): The shallow test holes were excavated to a depth of 42 inches and 10 inches in diameter and
backfilled with 2 inches of"pea gravel' in accordance with County Standards. The shallow holes were
prepared by Mike Toy and Jake Handel of Dillon &Murphy on February 27, 2008. On February 28,
2008 at 7:30 a.m. the 24 hour presoak period was started. The holes were filled with 12 inches of water
over the gravel at this time. The Environmental Health Department was notified of the start of the test.
Due to the failure of one of the shallow test holes, an additional shallow test hole was prepared by Jake
Handel of Dillon&Murphy on March 3, 2008. On March 4, 2008 at 7:30 am the 24 hour presoak
period was started. The hole was filled with 12 inches of water over the gravel at this time. The
Environmental Health department was notified of the start of the test.
6.4 Description of the Date,Time and Condition of the Test Hole After the 24-Hour Soak Period
(Hole Still Intact,Hole Dry,Depth to Water Remaining in Hole, Etc.): On February 29, 2008 the
four shallow test holes were dry. Six inches of water was added to the holes and the holes were deemed
suitable to continue. Three of the shallow tests passed the minimum County requirements.
On March 5, 2008 an additional shallow test hole was dug. Six inches of water was added to the hole
and was deemed suitable to continue. This shallow test passed the minimum county requirements.
6.5 The Test Conformed to San Joaquin County Policy EHD 02-02 (Correct Depth, diameter, 2"
gravel, 6" Water Refill,Correct Readings Recorded): The percolation tests conformed to San
Joaquin County Policy EHD 02-02.
3
c:\03118Soil Report
