AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES.
In determining whether impacts to
agricultural resources are significant
` environmental effects,lead agencies may
refer to the California Agricultural land
Evaluation and Site Assessment Model
(1997)prepared by the California Dept.
` of Conservation as an optional model to
use in assessing impacts on agriculture
and farmland. Would the project:
a) Convert Prime Farmland,Unique ■
Farmland,or Farmland of Statewide
Importance(Farmland),as shown on
the maps prepared pursuant to the
6. Program
Mapping and Monitoring
Program of the California Resources
Agency,to a non-agricultural use?
b) Conflict with existing zoning for ■ ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑
agricultural use,or a Williamson
Act contract?
c) Involve other changes in the existing ■ El ❑
Lenvironment which,due to their
Location or nature,could result in
conversion of Farmland to non-
Lagricultural use?
SETTING
6. The east side of the project site has been used for a dairy and cattle grazing since 1950. Dairy
operations ceased in June 2005. The buildings, other structures, and waste ponds that were
part of the dairy remain on the site. The remaining two-thirds of the parcel was irrigated hay
L crop and pastureland that now lies fallow.
The California Department of Conservation, Office of Land Conservation, and San Joaquin
` County have designated the soils on the western portion of the site as Prime Farmland, and
the soils on the eastern portion of the site (where the dairy was located)as Farmland of Local
Importance. In the past, the pasture land was irrigated with water from the Byron Bethany
LIrrigation District's (BBID) Canals 120 and 155, earthen irrigation canals that still exist, but
are no longer in use. Since dairy operations have ceased, BBID is no longer delivering
L irrigation water to the project site. The land is not in a Williamson Act contract(EDAW,
2005b, Figure 4.2-2).
LSIGNIFICANT IMPACTS IDENTIFIED IN 2005 SPIIIEIR
The SPIIIEIR identified three potentially significant impacts. One involves conversion of
agriculturally zoned land on the Pomho property(located northeast of the Machado property)
L
4-7
L
