r„ KLEINFELDER
nearly continuous basis to the maximum depth of exploration. Based on published correlations,
the data obtained will be used to estimate stratigraphy, soil type, groundwater depth, and in situ
soil parameters, such as undrained shear strength and standard penetration (l) values.
2. Laboratory Testing
Laboratory tests will be performed in accordance with current ASTM standards on selected
samples to evaluate the physical and engineering characteristics of the subsoils. We anticipate
these tests may include moisture content, dry unit weight, Atterberg Limits, shear strength, and
consolidation. We proposed to perform six to eight R-value tests on composite samples of the
subgrade soils to evaluate pavement sections. In addition, two tests will be performed on near-
r
surface soil samples to evaluate the corrosivity of the soils to buried metals and concrete. The
final selection of testing type and frequency will be selected based on the subsurface conditions
encountered during the field exploration.
3. Report Preparation
` Results of our field explorations, laboratory testing and engineering analyses will be summarized
in a report containing the following:
• A description of the proposed project;
• A description of the surface and subsurface site conditions encountered during our
field explorations;
• A description of our field and laboratory investigations
L
• A discussion regarding the geologic and seismic setting of the project area;
L • Conclusions and preliminary recommendations related to the geotechnical aspects
of:
1
6. - General earthwork, including site stripping, subgrade preparation, temporary
excavations, trench excavation and backfill, import fill, construction
` dewatering (if warranted), compaction criteria, and wet/soft soil
construction;
` - Potential geologic hazards, including liquefaction, ground rupture, and
strong ground shaking;
`„ - Foundation design and construction, including allowable bearing capacities,
lateral resistance, settlement, and foundation depth;
02001PROP.GBO/STO2P093 August 21,2002
©2002 Kleinfelder,Inc.
