January 27, 2005
NOA Project Number: E04070B
Page 4
lines ("cherry outfall"), according to.Mr.Jonathan Le of Precision Enviro=Tech. The asparagus
wash water sample was collected from the wash lines inside the asparagus building ("asparagus
F1 outfall"), according to Mr. Le. The results of the influent monitoring for 2004 are as follows:
,—; From April.19 through May 3, 2004, influent water was collected at the asparagus
1 outfall. During this time,BOD varied from 26.0 to 47.0 mg/1; and pH varied from
7.3 to 7.7 in the asparagus outfall water. Values of 6.5 to 8.5 are considered to be
acceptable pH levels for public drinking water systems'.'.No drinking water standard
has been identified for BOD.
From May 10 through June 7, 2004,influent water was collected at the cherry outfall.
Fill During this time,BOD varied from 19.0 to 143 mg/1, and pH varied from 7.6 to 8.2.
• Assuming equal volumes from the cherry and asparagus lines, the average BOD of
the influent water during the monitoring period was 54.9 mg/1 (Plate 1), and the
average pH was 7.8 (Plate 2).
RInfluent data is presented at the end of this document as Table 1.
Effluent Storage Pond Monitorin
R,
Monitoring of the storage pond water as the effluent has been conducted on a monthly basis
between April 19 and December 31, 2004. Although no water was discharged to land during this
period, these samples characterize the quality of the pond water available fox land application. The
effluent samples were collected from the south end of.the wastewater storage pond, opposite the
inlet. Monthly effluent samples were analyzed for BOD, nitrate as nitrogen, total Kjeldahl nitrogen
(TKN), total dissolved solids (TDS), residual chlorine, and total trihalomethanes (TTHMs). The
TTHM analysis is a sum of the concentrations of four trihalomethane (THM) constituents:
bromodichloromethane, bromoform, chloroform, and dibromochloromethane. The results of the
effluent monitoring for 2004 are as follows:
• BOD detections varied from 8.00 to 17.0 mg/l,with an average detection of 10.6
mg/1. No drinking water standatd has been identified for BOD. A slight correlation
between influent and effluent BOD is evident (Plate 1).
• Nitrate as nitrogen was not detected above the reporting limit of 0.2 mg/1,well
below the drinking water maximum contaminant level (MCL)' of 10 mg/l.
R4CFR Ch, 1 Part 143.3 National Secondary Drinking Water Regulations,2000.
P5CCR Title 22,Domestic Water Quality and Monitoring,2002.
11
