Additionally,it is Morada Produce's intent to eliminate
trihalomethanes (THMs), specifically chloroform, produced by the chlorination of water in the
asparagus and cherry hydrocoolers, that will be neutralized by treatment with sodium thiosulfate.
Consequently,it was decided by Morada Produce to exceed the minimum requirements requested by
CRWQCB and meter these two hydrocooler systems; these meters were also observed.Additionally,
j this technical report will detail the chlorine neutralization treatment to be implemented to minimize
creation of THMs.
On December 14`'', 2004, 1 conducted a site visit to observe the installation of metering equipment
on wastewater pond inflows at the 15 inch main PVC, as well as the hour meter on the pumping
system for the supplemental irrigation system.
Wastewater Pond Inflows
The wastewater pond inflows are metered at a location on the southeast corner of the facility where
the 15 inch PVC line is exposed in a corrugated metal vault (see Figure 1 and Photo 1). This vault is
located approximately 150 feet before the wastewater pond outflow point. The meter is a
SeaMetrics EX 210-s40-50, serial number 11041509. This meter is an insertion magnetic flow meter
type without any moving parts that is connected to a control panel powered by a 12-volt battery.
This battery is in turn connected to a solar panel array to maintain power (see Photo 2). Both the
vault, counter, solar array panel and battery are located within a secured chain link fence enclosure
visible in Photo 2. The critical installation dimension of 1 O upstream and 5x downstream for
straight pipe have been met according to discussion with Lance Kagehiro of Morada Produce.
