F)
Lange Property Page 7 of 13
Our Project Number: LES08004
February 8, 2008
/According to EXTOXNET, paraquat is a quaternary nitrogen herbicide classified as an RUP and a
highly toxic compound in EPA toxicity class I. Many cases of illness and/or death have been
reported in humans. The compound is moderately toxic to birds and many aquatic organisms.
The chemical is highly persistent in the soil environment, with reported field half-lives of greater
than 1000 days. Studies have shown the half life in water to be as fast as 13.1 hours and up to
23 weeks.
According to the PMEP, fenpropathrin has a reported half- life of 33 to 34 days under aerobic
soil conditions. "The end-use product (Danitol 2.4 EC Spray) has moderate to low acute oral,
dermal, inhalation and eye/skin irritation toxicity... Because of the physical properties of
fenpropathrin, ... it is unlikely that fenpropathrin or its metabolites can leach to potable
groundwater."
Information regarding febutatin-oxide was not readily available on both EXTOXNET and the
PMEP. The EPA website10 was searched for more information regarding this chemical.
According to an EPA article entitled R.E.D Facts" and dated September 1994, "fenbutatin-oxide
is a miticide or acaricide used to control mites, aphids, thrips, mealybugs, whiteflies and scale."
It has a "calculated half-lives range from 271 days to 1367 days in different States and soils.
This long half-life causes residue levels to increase with each successive application." "Although
fenbutatin-oxide is persistent, residues do not tend to accumulate in crops planted in previously
treated soils." Fenbutatin-oxide is classified as a highly toxic compound under EPA "Toxicity
Category I ... for eye irritation effects." It is "very highly toxic to freshwater, estuarine and
marine and invertebrates."
3.1.5 Water Supply and Sewage Disposal System
One domestic well is located on the subject property.
The EHD well and septic permit files were searched on January 15, 2008 in an effort to obtain
copies of permits for any water wells or septic tanks on the subject property; the following
permits were found:
■Permlt __.ems lT e-of,Worki Address Datd-IsiWeid1111111111111111111
Pump Installation W. end of Jahant, west of June 29, 1978
Lower Sacramento
Pump Repair, Replacement N.
