3.3 Description of all current on-site potential and/or known above and below ground
sources of contamination identified at the project site: Presently, there are no underground
storage tanks on the property and visual inspection did not produce any evidence of buried
containers, as well as no odors that would be associated with buried chemical tanks. There are
fertilizer tanks above ground as well as a storage tank on a trailer identified at the most recent
survey. There are no above ground fuel tanks on the site. The site includes an agricultural well at
the northeast corner of the property. There is a drainage ditch along the east line of the property
as well as Paddy Creek to the south(see tentative map)
3.4 Description of all past off-site potential and/or known above and below ground sources
of contamination identified in the area of the project site: Past off-site potential for
contamination is the proximity to Kettleman Lane and Paddy Creek. Other sources of potential
contamination is the surrounding vineyards and the chemicals used in their farming operation.
There is no knowledge of below ground sources of contamination in the area of the project site
that has or may impact the project site.
3.5 Description of all present off-site potential and/or known above and below ground
sources of contamination identified in the area of the project site: Present off-site potential
for contamination is the proximity to Kettleman Lane and Paddy Creek. Other sources of
potential contamination is the surrounding vineyards and the chemicals used in their farming
operation. There is no knowledge of below ground sources of contamination in the area of the
project site that has or may impact the project site.
4.0 EVALUATION OF PAST AND CURRENT SOURCES OF
CONTAMINATION IDENTIFIED AT OR NEAR THE SITE AND
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FURTHER ACTION:
4.1 Evaluation of each potential and/or known source of contamination identified for any
real and/or potential threat to human health and the environment: The depth to ground
water in this area is approximately 110 feet. Due to this depth, any pesticides, insecticides, and
fertilizers used on the property in the past or present would have a minimal impact to the ground
water. The use of approved best management practices for the containment of soil or any
contaminates by straw waddles around the construction site and other practices to reduce the
introduction of any dirt or contaminates into the storm runoff system will be required at the time
of any future construction per County Building Department.
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS SECTION:
5.1 Discussion of the above evaluation: The aforementioned above ground storage creates the
only potential for contamination. In the case of severe flooding,Paddy Creek could potentially
.. be a source of contamination as well. The close proximity to Kettleman Lane could be a
concern. However with the drainage of water away from the highway and the fact that the water
from Kettleman Lane is not retained on the subject property, the potential for contamination
r would be low, and no mitigation measures are recommended at this time.
2
r c:\04 Montamination Report 5/04
