4
Information regarding past uses of the property were obtained from the following sources:
• Albert Navarra. Albert and his brother Carl farmed the property in the late 1950's. After
having sold the property he has lived within approximately 1 mile and has observed the
farming on this parcel.
• Dave Weissman. Mr. Weissman is presently the manager of the Banta Carbona Irrigation
District and has lived nearby and observed activities on the property since the 1970's. He
also identified the property on the Banta Carbona Irrigation District Maps, which was
part of the irrigation district since formation in 1921.
• Donald Cose. Mr. Cose owned the property from the 1980's and leased this property to
Bobby Williams and the Thomings for farming. During that time the property was
primarily planted in processor tomatoes.
• H. B. Dietz and Greta W. Dietz purchased the property in late 2000 from Mr. Cose and
have leased the property for farming to Shawn and Connor Robertson and Carl Navarra
since 2001. The property has been planted in wheat and dry beans since 2001. Shortly
after purchase by H. B. Dietz the farm buildings on the property were demolished and the
debris removed under building permit in 2001. Subsequently a farm shop, guest house,
house and entertainment building were constructed with building permits on parcel 1.
Section 3.0 Identification of All Past and Current Sources of Contamination
The methods used for identification of past or current sources of contamination are as follows:
• Interview with prior owners
• Review of Banta Carbona Irrigation District Maps
• Review of landfill and gas station sites in the area
• Review of Agricultural Commissioner information on pesticies used on the subject
property
• Sampling of existing well
• Excavation of soil and septic systems
• Visual inspection of site
Interviews with prior owners allowed verification that the property has only been used for
farming activities since the early 1950's. The one exception is the installation of the gas well,
which was formally closed in the 1980's.
The review of maps which are available at the Banta Carbona Irrigation District shows the
property included in the district since its formation 1921.
-2-
