The proposed project is located in southwest San Joaquin County,south of the city of Tracy and northeast of the intersection of Interstates 5 and 580. The 217.5-acre site is bounded by SR 132Nemalis Road/Ohm Road on the north,Koster Road on the east,Blewett Road and the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct on the south,and the Delta Mendota Canal on the southwest. The project is a phased quarry excavation application to extract 20 million cubic yards of aggregate over a 40-year period. The project also includes a reclamation plan proposing to reclaim the site back to agriculture and/or a portion to be used as a water storage pond. The Draft EIR evaluates potential project effects on a range of resources,including aesthetics,agricultural f resources,air quality,biological resources, cultural resources, geology and soils,hydrology and water quality, hazards,noise,public services and utilities, and traffic, as well as cumulative and growth-related impacts. Mitigation measures are proposed where feasible to reduce significant impacts. Altematives'to the project are evaluated qualitatively and compared to the proposed project. The Draft EIR is now available for a 45-day public review and comment period. The comment period is from February 23,2007 through April 9,2007. You may obtain a copy of the document at the San Joaquin County Community Development Department,located at 1810 E.Hazelton Avenue in Stockton,California between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (except holidays). Written comments regarding the Draft EIR must be received by the Community Development Department no later than 5:00 p.m.,April 9,2007.
