The Notice of Preparation
describes a plan to create a 688-acre quarry to be located near the Vemalis area,in southwestern San
Joaquin County, with approximately 590 acres in San Joaquin County and 98 acres in Stanislaus
County.
Quarry Description
The quarry plans to produce over 100 million tons of sand and gravel over a 60-year period. Well water
will initially be used to wash materials, and when silt ponds are completed, the facility will begin to use
recycled water as well as well water. The project proposes to use 3.8 million gallons of water per day.
The quarry plans to have a processing plant and a concrete batch plant located on-site. When the mining
is complete the property will be reclaimed to agriculture and open space.
Wastewater
Since industrial wastewater is being proposed for discharge to land, then consistent with California
Water Code Section 13260, RMC Pacific Materials must submit a complete Report of Waste Discharge
(RWD) at least 120 days prior to discharging waste. Information contained within the RWD will be
used for developing WDRs for the winery and wastewater treatment system.
California Environntental Protection Agency
' ed Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
