hi. 3 Methodology
` of inundation, observation of soil saturation within 12 inches of the surface, oxidized root
channels, algal matting, sediment deposits, flow or drift accumulations at channel margins,
channel flow marks in beds, scouring, surface cracking, water staining, and topography("wetland
` drainage patterns"). Evidence of wetland hydrologic characteristics in channels consisted of
primary visual observations, focusing on drainage patterns, drift lines, sediment deposits, and
watermarks within the channel.
3.3.1 Methodology for Stream Channels
Stream channels with an obvious bed and banks were characterized by noting vegetation,
geomorphology(e.g., incision),and hydrologic characteristics and by measuring representative
V channel bank cross-sections to obtain the average bank-full width(i.e., ordinary high water
mark).
60 3.4 Mapping and Acreage Calculations
All data collection points, wetland boundaries, and stream channel courses were delineated in the
field on aerial photography, using hydrological and vegetative signatures and topographic data. In
the office, field data were mapped with geographic information system(GIS)software
(ArcGIS 9.0) on an overlay of both topography and geo-referenced aerial photography. Field-
determined wetland boundaries and data points were visually confirmed. The length of each
channel and the acreages of the wetland polygons were obtained by ArcGIS.
r
V
r
v
Vernalis Ouany Mining and Reclamation Project 3-3 ESA/203015
W eland tJelineation Report February 20N
r
