San Joaquin Kit Fox,California Red-Legged Frog, and Swainson's Hawk Habitat Assessment
. Likelihood to Occur on Project Site
Swainson's hawks are unlikely to nest in trees associated with residences on the Project site. Non-
orchard agricultural land on the Project site provides suitable foraging habitat for the species.
Given the Project site's proximity to numerous recorded nests near the San Joaquin River, it is
likely that the species forages on the Project site.
Conclusions
The Project site provides suitable habitat for two of the three species evaluated in this report, San
Joaquin kit fox and Swainson's hawk, but does not provide habitat for California red-legged frog.
In order to avoid or mitigate potential Project impacts to San Joaquin kit fox and Swainson's
` hawk(especially disturbance at breeding sites),the Project should incorporate appropriate
measures, including the avoidance measures described in Standardized Recommendations for the
` Protection of the San Joaquin Kt Fox Prior to or During Ground Disturbance(USFWS, 1999)and
Staff Report Regarding Mitigation for Impacts to Swainson's Hawks (Buteo swainsoni) in the
Central Valley of California(CDFG, 1994).
r.
References
California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG). 1994.
