4. ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
4.8 HYDROLOGY AND WATER QUALITY
Local and Project Site Specific
Data review for this FIR included an inventory of the groundwater wells on the project site and
within approximately one mile of the study area. A total of 10 wells were identified and
groundwater level trends in the project vicinity were based on DWR or USBR water level data.
Background work also included an evaluation of current groundwater conditions for the upper
unconfined aquifer based on exploratory borings drilled at the proposed project site. Table 4.8-2
shows the groundwater well locations relative to the proposed project, the well identification
number, and aquifer source. Groundwater well locations relative to the project site are shown in
Figure 4.8-3.
TABLE 4.8-2
GROUNDWATER WELLS IN THE PROJECT VICINITY
Distance from
State Well Well Depth Aquifer the Project Site Direction from
Number' (feet) Classification' (feet) the Project Site
4S/6E-10R001 250 Unconfined 5,280 E
4S/6E-05A001 N/A Unconfined t00 W
4S/6E-15RO01 165 Unconfined 6,000 SE
4S/6E-09B001 N/A Confined 2,200 SE
4S/6E-10E001 770 Confined 300 S
4S/6E-08R001 310 Confined 1,200 SW
i
K4S/6E-04N001 630 Confined On site N
4S/6E-08L002 N/A Confined 1,500 W
i
y• ' f 4S/6E-04H001 470 Confined On site N
J
4S/6E-056001 530 Confined 1,400 W
r
a All wells listed are in Township 04 South,Range 06 Fast.
b Condor Earth Technology,1992.
N/A Data not available.
SOURCE: MWA and ESA,1993. ,a
Groundwater was encountered during exploratory drilling at the proposed project site at y
elevations of approximately 57 to 85 feet above msl or equivalently, at depths of 83 to 120 feet
below the surface. These measurements do not necessarily represent long term water table
conditions but rather, the water table condition at the time of the measurements. These
encountered groundwater depths are consistent with historical DWR water level measurements
in a water table well located approximately 100 feet west of the proposed project site(4S/6E-
5A01). The hydrograph for this well is shown in Figure 4.8-4. The depth to ground water in
this well has fluctuated between 85 feet and 110 feet above msl during approximately 40 years j
.r
RMC Pacific Vemalis Quany Mining and Reclamation Project 4.8-8 ESA/203015 J
Adntinisnabw theft EIR March 2004
