DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
- 1010 id"Street, Suite 3400, Modesto, CA 95354
a
Phone:209.525.6330 Fax:209.525.5911
My
striving to be Best RECEIVE
January 18, 2002
JAN22M
Karen Sinardi COMMU01
Spinardi Associates ryDevelOpmenwaPt.
265 Sea View Avenue
Piedmont, CA 94610
Re: RMC Pacific Materials, Inc. -Vernalis Quarry.
Dear Ms. Spinardi,
As a result of a referral to our office from the San Joaquin County Planning Department, we have
recently become aware of a proposal by RMC Pacific Materials to conduct a mining operation on
the border of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties.
The purpose of any letter is to inform you as soon as possible that you must make an application to
Stanislaus County for a Use Permit for any mining in this County. A permit for one county has no
applicability in another. I have included a complete set application forms for your use. Please note
that it requires more information that we have received regarding your current application with San
Joaquin County.
Once we have received an application and accepted it as complete,it will be possible to work toward
coordinating the processing of the joint applications between the two counties. A formal agreement
regarding the CEQA lead agency process would then be appropriate. Once such an agreement has
been made, processing of your requests in both counties can proceed.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding any of the above. Thank you for your
cooperation.
Sincerely,
Bob Kachel
Senior Planner
enclosure
cc: Leanne Mueller, San Joaquin County Planning Department
