Internal <br /> haul roads may also undergo localized failure during an earthquake. Equipment damage could <br /> injure site workers and visitors to the quarry. <br /> 6. Avoiding earthquake damage to the processing plant equipment, the batch plant, associated <br /> portable offices, and other related equipment depends on the structural stability and the <br /> performance of these structures during strong ground shaking. The design and construction of <br /> certain buildings may require conformance with seismic design criteria set forth by the California <br /> Building Code(CBC) while other structures are considered portable,temporary structures or <br /> ` processing equipment may not be subject to the CBC seismic design criteria. <br /> Earthquakes are unavoidable and although infrequent,could at some time during the life of the <br /> ` project,cause worker injury and equipment damage. Structures related to quarry operations that <br /> are required to comply with the CBC seismic design criteria for this area would likely experience <br /> minor damage and remain stable. Other equipment, such as portable offices or temporary <br /> processing equipment could cause injury if substantially damaged during ground shaking. <br /> However,although some structural damage may occur,the overall risk to workers is considered <br /> low because if an earthquake was to occur during working hours, many of the 40 employees on <br /> 6. the site would be operating equipment or be within structures that could withstand ground <br /> shaking. Regardless, the following mitigation measure would further ensure that adverse impacts <br /> associated with earthquake ground shaking be less than significant. <br /> Mitigation Measures <br /> Measure 4.7.4: Earthquake Preparedness and Response Plan. Prior to commencement of <br /> mining,the applicant staff shall complete an Earthquake Preparedness and Response Plan <br /> (EPRP) to address worker safety and plant operation status during and following a major <br /> earthquake. The EPRP shall be included or become a supplementary document to the <br /> standard site health and safety plan. The EPRP shall be prepared, implemented,and self- <br /> monitored by the applicant.
