4 Biological Resources <br /> 4.9 Biological Resources <br /> 4.9.1 Introduction <br /> The following section describes the biological resources and natural communities occurring <br /> within the project area, and outlines potential impacts to biological resources that may result from <br /> the project. This evaluation of biological resources includes a review of potentially occurring <br /> special-status species, wildlife habitats, vegetation communities, and jurisdictional waters of the <br /> ` U.S. The results of this assessment are based upon field surveys, literature searches, and database <br /> queries. An initial site reconnaissance was conducted by an ESA biologist on September 4, 2003. <br /> A burrowing owl habitat assessment and burrow surveys were conducted by ESA biologists from <br /> January 27 to February 1, 2005, and on June 5,2005.Field work for a site assessment for <br /> California red-legged frog and San Joaquin kit fox,rare plant survey, and formal wetland <br /> delineation was conducted by ESA biologists on May 4, 2005.
