h KLEINFELDER
I
I EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
a
This is a report of monitoring well installation and groundwater sampling at the DSS Vernalis
Quarry at the Koster Road Facility in Tracy, California. Kleinfelder conducted this work based
I upon our workplan titled "Second Revised Proposal/Cost Estimate, Monitoring Well Installation
and Groundwater Sampling and Analyses, Proposed DSS Gravel Pit (QX-96-1), Koster Road
Facility, Tracy, California", dated September 27, 2000.
The work was conducted to satisfy the requirements of San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS,EHD) and the San Joaquin County Community
Development Services Division (CDD). PHS/EHD has requested DSS Company (DSS) to
monitor overdraft, perched water, flow patterns, and water quality beneath the proposed Phase I,
H and 1II gravel pits of the DSS facility. CDD requested DSS to install shallow monitoring wells
between the Delta Mendota Canal and a proposed settling basin to monitor potential perched
water and/or seepage from the canal.
Two monitoring wells (MW-1 and MW-2) were installed on October 26, 2000 between the Phase I
Settling Ponds"and the Delta Mendota Canal. Monitoring wells MWA and MW-2 were screened
from approximately 14 to 34 feet below ground surface (bgs) and 15 to 35 feet bgs respectively.
w
No subsurface groundwater was noted in these two completed wells.
A total of three deep wells (DW-1, DW-213 and DW-3) and a domestic well were attempted to be
► sounded for depth to groundwater and for groundwater collection and analyses. This was done for
the purpose of obtaining groundwater elevations, flow direction, gradient, and general water quality
data at the request of PHSIEHD. Only one of four wells (DW-2B) was able to be sounded with a
groundwater depth of 208.52 feet below top of casing. Wells DW-1and DW-3 did not have
soundin =4L a or soundin e t. Residents of domestic well DOM-1 were not
availa le and dogs prevented access to the well head. Groundwater samples were collected from the
three deep wells and a summary of the analytical results are shown on Tables 1 and 2 in the
appendix. For recommendations please refer to Section 6 of this report.
This report and the findings and recommendations presented, are subject to the "Limitations"
presented in Chapter 7 of this report. Anyone other than the client, who wishes to use this
document must complete the "Application for Authorization to Use" which is included as an
appendix to this report.
i
I
I
20-2245-36.601/2011R279 Page I of 10
Copyright 2001, Kleinfelder, Inc.
